WED AUG 4TH ~~ Mount Vernon Country Club will host Cuban pianist “Chuchito” Valdés and his Afro-Cuban Jazz quintet (on their way to The Telluride Jazz Festival) on Wednesday, August 4th for a special dinner concert prior to his appearance at the Telluride Jazz Celebration. Born in Havana, Cuba; Valdés comes from one of the most distinguished musical families in Cuba. His initial influences were the Cuban masters of the instrument including his grandfather, Bebo and father, the great Chucho Valdés. A classical background with emphasis in harmony and composition gave him the technical ability to learn the Cuban music traditions of Mambo, Danzon, Cuban Timba, and Guanguanco. Chuchito’s quintet features his regular, high energy touring group, performing Afro-Cuban Jazz, Bebop, Cha-Cha-Cha and Danzon. Come experience the flavor of Cuba with the next generation of masters ~~ In addition to great music, there will be a book signing by Author, Cicily Janus and Photographer, Ned Radinsky promoting their book, Faces of Jazz (an intimate look at today’s living legends and the artists of tomorrow).
