TUEZZ DEC 29TH ~~  The Teaching w/ Serfain Sanchez (Tenor Sax) at D Note, 7519 Grandview Ave., Arvada, CO 80010 ~~ HitTime: 8:00pm-11:00pm ~~ Tix: All Ages / $10 cover ~~ FMI:  (303) 463-6683 OR www.dnote.us ~~ SEATTLE’S THE TEACHING RETURNS TO COLORADO ~~ Seattle’s soulful trio The Teaching returns to Colorado to perform at Dazzle and D Note, releasing their brand new DVD Live at the Triple Door ~~ Live at the Triple Door is a 75-minute documentary that includes stunning multi-camera footage from the band’s Triple Door concert on January 2nd, 2009 interleaved with interviews, fan responses, and additional live video clips from Colorado and Seattle. There are also bonus features such as group audio commentary on the song Apex of a Beautiful Day. The Teaching formed in August 2005 when the three members (Josh Rawlings, Jeremy Jones, and Evan Flory-Barnes) performed a set of spontaneous unrehearsed music and found an instant musical connection~~ Keeping with that recipe, the group has created an infectious sound by building expansive songs from simple melodic or harmonic seeds ~~ seamlessly turning on a dime to create new musical textures, constantly urging each other to deeper musical depths. Their weekly Thursday-night performance/jam-session “The Hang” has been running nearly 3 years and has become home base for the New Seattle music scene, a collective of groups characterized by musical passion and collaboration. A single set of music by The Teaching traverses boom-bap grooves, explosive swing, melodious group singing, and energetic builds that burst into an ecstatic feeling. The synthesis of musical proficiency and devotional simplicity appeals to audiences of all ages. This will be the group’s 2nd trip to Colorado. Jeremy, the group’s drummer, grew up in Arvada and has been playing in Colorado several times a year for the past 5 years with the Denver-based saxophonist Serafin Sanchez, who will be a guest with The Teaching on both Colorado shows. ~~ TUEZZ DEC 29TH ~~  The Teaching w/ Serfain Sanchez (Tenor Sax) at D Note, 7519 Grandview Ave., Arvada, CO 80010 ~~ HitTime: 8:00pm-11:00pm ~~ Tix: All Ages / $10 cover ~~ FMI:  (303) 463-6683 OR www.dnote.us ~~ SEATTLE’S THE TEACHING RETURNS TO COLORADO ~~ Seattle’s soulful trio The Teaching returns to Colorado to perform at Dazzle and D Note, releasing their brand new DVD Live at the Triple Door ~~ Live at the Triple Door is a 75-minute documentary that includes stunning multi-camera footage from the band’s Triple Door concert on January 2nd, 2009 interleaved with interviews, fan responses, and additional live video clips from Colorado and Seattle. There are also bonus features such as group audio commentary on the song Apex of a Beautiful Day. The Teaching formed in August 2005 when the three members (Josh Rawlings, Jeremy Jones, and Evan Flory-Barnes) performed a set of spontaneous unrehearsed music and found an instant musical connection ~~ Keeping with that recipe, the group has created an infectious sound by building expansive songs from simple melodic or harmonic seeds, seamlessly turning on a dime to create new musical textures, constantly urging each other to deeper musical depths. Imagine, if you will, Bitches Brew or On The Corner, but with more cinematic clarity and less drug-addled wank. That’s where Cuong Vu and his musical juggernaut are sitting, just waiting to crush you. And you’ll love it.” – Splendidezine.com ~~”Exploring the deepest of harmonic depths opened up by the freedom of jazz-based themes, bandleader Tyler Gilmore steers the ensemble through a lush musical ocean like a modern-day Gil Evans, burgeoned by vigorous winds of acid, fusion, and even electronica.” – Colorado Music Buzz ~~ About the performers: Cuong Vu is widely recognized by jazz critics as a leader of a generation of innovative musicians. A truly unique musical voice, Cuong has lent his trumpet playing talents to a wide range of artists including Pat Metheny, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Dave Douglas, Myra Melford, Cibo Matto, Mitchell Froom, and Chris Speed. Cuong, along with the Pat Metheny Group, received a Grammy Award in 2003 for their recording “The Way Up” ~~ http://www.cuongvu.com ~~ Composer and band-leader Tyler Gilmore is traversing a new landscape in big band and chamber composition. Influences ranging from composers of the 20th century to the electronic innovators of today combine with his own musical personality to form his aural output. SUN DEC 27TH & MON DEC 28TH ~~ GRAMMY-WINNING TRUMPETER CUONG VU TO JOIN DENVER’S NINTH+LINCOLN ORCHESTRA UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MAESTRO TYLER GILMORE FOR PERFORMANCEZZ AND RECORDING SUN DEC 27TH & MON DEC 28TH ~~ GRAMMY-WINNING TRUMPETER CUONG VU TO JOIN DENVER’S NINTH+LINCOLN ORCHESTRA UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MAESTRO TYLER GILMORE FOR PERFORMANCEZZ AND RECORDING @ Dazzle Jazz Club, 930 Lincoln St. Denver, CO 80203 ~~  HitTime: SUN ~~ 6 & 8PM ~~ HitTime: MON ~~ 7PM ~~ Tickets: $15 ~~ The celebrated Ninth+Lincoln Orchestra will welcome Trumpeter Cuong Vu to premiere all new music by Denver composer Tyler Gilmore.  Ranging from hushed atmospheres to raucous electronic improvisation, the performances promise to be innovative and impassioned.  Rarely has a pioneering performer such as this joined such a reputable local ensemble, to produce what is sure to be a memorable musical collaboration ~~ “It’s hard to avoid references to Miles Davis when talking about the trumpet, but Cuong is the nearest thing I’ve heard to someone encapsulating and surpassing Davis’ range of textures.
