~~ SAT MAY 8TH ~~ CHASED, the 9-piece Denver band re-creating the charisma of the ’70s band CHASE will perform two shows @ Dazzle, 930 Lincoln St., Denver, CO 80203 ~~ Hit Timezz:  7 & 9PM  ~~ Cover: $15 ~~ The original CHASE band, which rivaled Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago in terms of jazz/rock power, came to an end in 1974 with the plane-crash death of founder Bill Chase. Chase had developed his prowess in jazz while playing lead trumpet with the Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman bands. He later organized his own group featuring a front line of four trumpets with vocalist and rhythm section ~~ While most of the original CHASE songs and arrangements disappeared after Chase’s death, Denver trumpeters (and co-leaders) Scott Handler and Jay Nakagawa have faithfully transcribed these charts from the original studio and live recordings, maintaining as much of the original voicings as humanly and technologically possible ~~ CHASED’s performances are characterized by the four high-note trumpets that Jim Szantor of Downbeat magazine called “the hallmark of the Chase brass—complex cascading lines; a literal waterfall of trumpet timbre and technique.” ~~ CHASED is the trumpet section of Scott Handler, Jay Nakagawa, Kevin Tague and Jason Mabrey with the fantastic rhythm section of Tim Hurley (g), Mike Marlier (d), Dave Weinand (b) and Gary Dempsey (k).
